Preparing for Thanksgiving: Our Favorite Farms on Maine's Midcoast

As Thanksgiving approaches, there's no better way to celebrate than by supporting local farms and markets to gather fresh, local ingredients for your feast. Here on Maine's Midcoast, we’re surrounded by a bounty of farms and food producers who take pride in their locally grown and handcrafted goods. Whether you're looking for the perfect turkey, seasonal side dishes, or a homemade pie that’s to die for, you can find everything you need right here. And, if you’re visiting the area, why not stay with us at Three Sisters Farm and explore these wonderful locations for yourself?

Fresh Turkeys and Sides

Start your Thanksgiving preparation with the main event—the turkey! Rosemont Market & Bakery, with various locations in Greater Portland, is a go-to for Thanksgiving essentials. Their Thanksgiving preorder menu features organic, locally raised turkeys, freshly baked bread, and from-scratch dishes. This local market also offers a range of seasonal sides, from roasted vegetables to cranberry sauce. Don’t forget to place your order early—these high-quality items sell out fast! These are perfect to pick up on your way to the farm if you are celebrating the holidays with us in Friendship!

Homemade Pies

Nothing says Thanksgiving like a homemade pie, and Two Fat Cats Bakery in Portland offers some of the best around. With pies like apple, pumpkin, and chocolate cream on the menu, you’ll want to order ahead to ensure your Thanksgiving table has a sweet finish. Two Fat Cats’ pumpkin rolls and buttermilk biscuits are also not to be missed.

Closer to Three Sisters Farm, you’ll find delicious pies at Wallace’s Market. Made locally in Cushing, ME, they offer unique flavors like tri-berry apple and strawberry rhubarb, a delightful addition to your Thanksgiving spread.

Fresh Produce

Located right down the road from Three Sisters Farm, Beth's Farm Market in Warren is one of the finest in Maine!  With hyper-local fresh produce and meat from many of the surrounding farms, Beth's is our favorite place to stock up on the local flavor. But call ahead if you’re hoping to order a turkey - they typically sell out by Thanksgiving!

If apples are a staple in your holiday baking, head to Biscay Orchards in Damariscotta. Here, you can pick your own apples or choose from their market, which offers a variety of fresh-picked fruits. Biscay Orchards also sells seasonal favorites like baked goods, cider, and homemade jams that are perfect for your Thanksgiving table or as gifts.
